For the past several years, Ubud has grown into this modern village which still manages to keep its specific charm and soothing atmosphere while moving forward in its level of achievements in performing its role hosting international standard events.

Following the 2-day successful celebration of jazz (and only jazz!!!) during the Ubud Village Jazz Festival last month, Arma Museum has once again been selected as venue to a world-class music concert which will be held in October! It will be a spectacular show presenting the world-renowned jazz guitarist John McLaughlin, supported by his long-time band, The 4th Dimension! This event will take place on October 18, 2015.

John McLaughlin coming to Bali is certainly an event that all jazz enthusiasts will be looking forward to! Being a guitarist, band leader and composer, McLaughlin has made a significant contribution in the international music world for decades long. His music includes various genres of jazz and rock, which he combined with an interest in Indian classical music. Following his years of accomplishments in his music career, in 2003 McLaughlin was ranked on number 49 in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.

Opening for the Ubud stage’s international guest will be Indonesia’s very own influential jazz guitarist, Dewa Budjana, who was also the one who came up with the idea of the show along with its chosen title, “Duaji Guruji”.

Dewa Budjana explained that Duaji Guruji is the title of a single in Surya Namaskar which is his most recent album that has just been born a few months ago. He also added that both he and McLaughlin will play their sets back to back and at the end of the night McLaughlin will donate his guitar to Museum Gitarku, which is Dewa Budjana’s guitar museum set in the village of Payogan in Ubud.

McLaughlin’s guitar donation to Museum Gitarku would definitely make a wonderful addition to the collection of the museum which is already pretty impressive. The museum has been housing guitars donated by local Indonesian heroes such as Eross Chandra, Chrisye, Rhoma Irama, Baim, Baron and others have contributed memorabilia. From the international scope, the museum has been home to guitars from John Frusciante, Pat Metheny, Steve Vai and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal.

Returning to the idea and title of this concert, both “duaji” and “guruji” are words taken from the local Balinese language. “Duaji” is a word addressed to a respected man, while “Guruji” is addressed to one of an even more respected status which also represents a man’s personal qualities and wisdom.

Put together in a phrase, these two words stand for Budjana and McLaughlin’s relationship. It represents their dynamic dedication and journey in their continuous exploration and expansion through music.

Duaji Guruji is presented by Museum Gitarku, which is a member of Wisesa Group and organized by Antida Music Productions. Tickets have gone on limited presale for Rp. 300.000,00. Normal admission will be priced at Rp. 500.000,00 and Rp.1.000.000,00 for VIP.
