White Rose: A New Pop Punk Sound from Denpasar!
Over the years, this Artist of the Week segment has kind of proven to us here that this island is indeed blessed with such a long list of musicians of all kinds, and not to mention a playground to stop by for those amazing ones from all over the globe!
One thing that we also noticed for sure is that ever since the early 2000s, pop punk has always been a very popular genre among teens and young adults of Denpasar. And this week’s Artist of the Week is one to represent the island’s bands from the pop punk sub-culture! Meet Surya Dipta (vocals), Ian Putra (guitar), Adi Krisna a.k.a Goib (bass) and Gung Nandha (drums), and together they are White Rose!
This band just started being back on track with the new formation of their band in 2014, and soon in May 2015, they launched their debut album, ‘Buka Mata Mereka’ which translates into ‘Open Their Eyes’. The album was released under Heartless Records, which is also known as one of Denpasar’s clothing lines.
Surya Dipta, the vocalist, explained that their songs mainly energetic and carry modern pop punks feel. The lyrics are mostly about growth and their idealism of keeping an open mind. Through their music they intend to inspire those who are growing up and searching for their true self.
