Rio Sidik: Sound of the Mystical Vibes
This week’s artist of the week happens to be another super familiar face of the island’s music scene, for this guy has chosen Bali as his home to grow since his early years as a teenager. And with his talent and journey to lay low and not be known is definitely not an option. His years lived walking his path as a musician has led him into his many impressive achievements these days which includes his placement on the map of respectful world-class jazz musicians. And yes, that all sounds pretty damn awesome indeed. How wouldn’t it? We are talking about Mr. Rio Sidik; musician, composer and producer.
Born in Surabaya, East Java as the 3th generation trumpeter in his family from his maternal side, this guy has been completely unstoppable! He has been creating such wonderful music and both alone and with his amazing world fusion band called Saharadja, he has earned many opportunities to spread his message during his band’s tours to numerous countries spread in different continents all over the world.
His stories about the stages shared, childhood heroes he has jammed with and the legends he ended up chilling with while improvising his tunes on the trumpet, never fails to get you to the state where you have to hold yourself just to keep the chills under control. His passion, enthusiasm and sincerity while he tells his stories doesn’t differ much from when he is on stage, which is probably why the audience is always so hypnotized and blended in the happy lively atmosphere his music always forms .
We were super glad to have Rio Sidik in the studio for the second time following our first interview with him which took place one and a half year ago. The fact that the occasion was totally related to Rio Sidik Quintet’s the soon-to-be-launched album “Sound of the Mystical Vibe” made everything even more exciting! The album is an audio & video recording album and the purpose is to be able to pass on the energy as they do when they perform live on stage.
Aside from its special feature being an audio & video album, “Sound of the Mystical Vibe” also carries a unique quality whereas it contains 10 songs with such different genres! Rio Sidik decided to go crazy creative and go from jazzy tunes to pop, from ballad to reggae, and that’s not even all! The album itself is planned to be launched somewhere around the last months of this year. However, Rio was feeling generous and has given us the honor to be the first radio station to play his new tracks. All of them! And umm, a little bit of spoiler, it is freakin’ awesome!
Make sure not to miss the epic interview on Artist of the Week, Sunday July 27 at 12 noon Bali Time! Re-runs are on the same day at 10 pm and Monday at 10 am. And don’t forget to tune in for these unreleased tracks from “Sound of the Mystical Vibe” exclusively on www.baliradio.net every day at 7 am, 12 am, 7 pm and 12 pm daily for the entire week! Enjoy!

If you have ever been to Bali, you must have noticed that even though it’s not the most dominant genre of music played on venues, reggae does have a special place and portion at most venues’ Top 40 playlists all around island.
