SOMEWHERE AMONG THE FOREST, TREES, BUBBLES & KITES WITH PYGMY MARMOSET
Yes, Pygmy Marmoset is indeed a phrase with a very cute sound! The most common reaction to hearing or reading this phrase is to imagine a cute creature; something that you totally would want to hug or turn into a keychain or mini figure model! Well, you did not guess wrong, as pygmy marmoset is the name of a tiny cute primate that lives in the jungles of the south east of Colombia, east of Ecuador and the north of Bolivia.
As tempting as it is to keep on talking about this tiny monkey, the Pygmy Marmoset we are referring to here is a band based here on the southern part of Bali, hundreds of miles away from where these cute creatures live their life! We hope that you are not too disappointed that this Pygmy Marmoset equals two humans (not monkeys!!!), named Zenith and Sanjay. But don’t worry, they are cute too! And so is their music!
This band actually started off as a side project as these two really wanted to musically collaborate, yet their initial genres of music were too far different from one another. Lucky us, they found a common ground where they both express themselves so nicely through the sound of the acoustic guitar, combined with the cute touch of glockenspiel and melodica.
Listening to their folky acoustic tunes brings us to a place of happy thoughts; a field of green with big trees, where we can embrace our inner child and sweet innocence, running around while blowing bubbles or flying a kite! That is pretty much the feel and energy passed on through most of the songs they play. And it is a sound that can serve as a nice cup of tea, or a hug, for most people.
In 2014, Pygmy Marmoset has released their debut album, Kabar Dari Hutan, which translates into News from the Forest. The creation of this self-produced album involves a number of local artists, each of them contributing what was needed and what they were best at. The album consists of eight tracks, one of them being the band’s favorite cover song which they often play during their gigs, “Tonight You Belong to Me.”
The CD cover was created by Sanjay himself, and the lyric pages were written and drawn by Zenith. And the finishing touch of this part of the album once again involved a number of local talents as well; which totally describes a warm and fun atmosphere in the making of this album. Kabar Dari Hutan is “made by order”, so if you happen to love what you hear in our Artist of the Week section for the coming two weeks, you can place your order and get an album made and delivered!
We are very excited of finally having this sweet duo as Artist of the Week, and we simply can’t wait for the interview and live session at our studio on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at 10 PM Bali Time!
In the mean time you can enjoy their soothing tracks; Layang-Layang (which translates into Kite), and Cerita Tentang Pohon (which translates into A Story about the Tree) right here every day for two full weeks at 12 AM, 7 AM, 7 PM, and 12 PM Bali Time!
