Kacir: The Guy with the Heartfelt Folk Tunes About Joy and Gratitude
Kacir Maitakai is a singer and musician from the exotic Alor Island in East Nusa Tenggara, who has been a Bali-based musician for over fifteen years now. He started tapping into his musical side in 1997 when he began playing the drums which was later on followed by his passion for guitar.
After Kacir discovered his nice chemistry with the guitar, he started composing and performing his songs in the honest simplicity which is kind of his thing. He sings from the heart, and that is probably why it sounds so soulful.
When we got into talking and sharing at our studio, he tended to use the word ‘simple’ in referring to his work and style quite a lot. It almost seemed as if he considered what he did to be simple. Well, though complicated is totally not the suitable term to describe what this guy is about, Kacir’s work is definitely more than just simple.
He passes this beautiful happy energy through his music, lyrics and the powerful vocal instrument he is blessed with. And it was not a coincidence for us to capture that particular vibe, as the man did admit that the message he is trying to share through his music is indeed the classic one for people to be grateful and happy. Nothing new about the concept, that is true, but it is sure always good to hear such positivity.
Kacir plays acoustic folk and his tunes can easily fall under the category of easy listening in a very good way. Over the years, Kacir has shared his music through several online platforms, yet he has not released an album yet.
He is currently working on his debut album, and the special feature would be that unlike his previous published work, these tracks will be in his local language, which is one out of the thirty languages spoken in the small island of Alor. The language has been endangered as people on the island tend to speak Bahasa Indonesia in a local dialect to communicate better between different clans. Therefore, for the love of his hometown, Kacir intends to honor his ancestor's local language through his songs.
Aside from his regular gigs where he plays both his original music as well as covers, over the years Kacir has also performed at various music festivals. To name a few, he has performed at Bandung World Jazz Festival, Malang Jazz Forum, Java Jazz Festival , Ubud Vilage Jazz Festival, Jazz Market by the Sea and Indonesian Music Expo.
We are very excited to share more about this humble man! Tune in for the interview and live session on Sunday, November 15, 2024 at 10 PM Bali Time! The re-run will be on Sunday, November 22, 2024 at the same time! In the mean time, we will play Kacir’s latest tracks four times a day for two full weeks at 7 am, 12 pm, 7 pm and 12 am Bali Time!
