It has indeed been a while since we featured local newcomers on our Artist of the Week section, and for that very reason, we have done some searching in order to deliver one of the fresh talents from Denpasar’s music scene. Meet Antibodi; which is Indonesian for antibody, a three-piece who like their music fast and loud!

Antibodi equals Joe Enders (also known for being member of Joyride, Redeemer and Middle of July) who is the founder, lead guitarist and vocalist, Agus Fore (previously known as band member of Ultramen and Sunday is My Birthday) on drums and Ciko Inside (previously known from Endless Holiday in Jogjakarta) on bass.

Antibodi is a local indie punk rock band whose music and lyrics expresses their concern about social and environmental issues as well as spirituality in humans’ daily life. The fact that they are based in Bali makes their daily life very close to spiritual beliefs in the diversity that the island has to offer. And given the nature of Bali as fast developing resort island, these guys are also inspired to bring up issues related to shifts towards modernity and the different colors in Bali’s socio-cultural life which has influenced from various directions.

Unlike the trending genre of music that is brought by a majority of local musicians, these three completely refused to become touchy-feely and join the club; singing about all heart-bleeding love tragedies. They admitted that they know those themes tend to face less challenge in getting attention and some level of success, as it does sell in these days’ market. However, they don’t see that style as one that they would wear well, and therefore decided to move forward and face the challenge and obstacles of making things happen for their band without compromising how they’d really want to create and share their work. So, positive messages through straight-to-your-face punk it is!

Antibodi released their first single titled “Final Test” which speaks up about how they see the importance of better education from their own particular point of view, which they feel would represent the angle of the critical minds of this country’s youth. Through this single, they hope to contribute something in spreading a message of awareness in that matter.
