Pushing Borders with FILASTINE
This week we are super psyched; as our Artist of the Week is actually being reviewed on Baliradio.net for their incredible very particular awesome work that they do for the second time around now! But this time it'd be so much more awesome than the last time as we actually got the chance to properly meet them and listen to their stories!
Meet Filastine, people!!! Filastine is an artist that pushes musical borders, experiments with sounds and takes his music into a whole different level; one that will be taken to next level as soon as more work and experience gets done.
Filastine is one of the very few that certainly brings this very specific style of electronic music that blends, mixes and combines all kinds of music elements, from such diverse backgrounds, influenced by sounds from along the paths that Grey Filastine has walked through in his journey, which on the literal level does equal dozens of cities spread all around the world, really.
Grey Filastine is the composer of a gritty electronic music that collides the lowest frequencies of bass music with the highest-level beat science, acoustic instruments and field recordings. His work often features Javanese indie rapper Nova and avant-garde cellist Brent Arnold.
Nova has been collaborating with Filastine since 2010. She comes from a rich cultural background in Java, Indonesia, where she grew up singing pentecostal spirituals with her preacher grandfather, Quranic recitations in the mosque as well as Javanese gamelan in school. And in addition, she also grew up into the half of the Indonesian rap duo, Twin Sista. When she is not touring with Filastime, Nova plays another wonderful role back home; giving workshops on art and environmental activism, which goes very well with Filastine's conscious image.
Filastine also produces award-winning videos, designed a post-crash currency , and conducts public sound interventions. Before getting into digital arts he founded the prototype anarchist marching band, the Infernal Noise Brigade.
Talking with Filastine at our studio was simply amazing! All the thoughts, ideas, and even super rad dream that we managed to fish out of them were all just so original! And of course we'd love to share that all with you people, and that is exactly why you should tune in and listen to the exclusive interview with Grey and Nova plus a couple acoustic live tracks from our studio, this Sunday ( January 11, 2024) at 10 PM Bali Time with a re-run on Monday at 9 AM Bali Time!
In the mean time, stream in and listen up to Filastine's latest tracks from the EP Aphasia, everyday at 7 AM, 12 PM and 7 PM Bali Time!
And even better yet, if you happen to be on the island, come and join us at their gigs at Antida Soundgarden and Betelnut Ubud!
