PENATARAN SASIH (PURA PENATARAN SASIH)

Welcome to the Penataran Sasih temple, or Pura Penataran Sasih in the calm and charming historical village of Pejeng, Gianyar! This temple is nested in Gianyar regency, just around 6 kilometers north from the town.

If you’re fond of archeology and ancient legends, the place should have your imagination wandering back in ancient times better than an Indiana Jones movie. You will find there the “moon of Pejeng”, an artifact made of a meteorite and bronze alloy.

According to legends, the Moon of Pejeng was the wheel of the chariot pulling the moon, which felt of the sky down to Earth.

Archeologists believed it to be the largest single-cast bronze kettle-drum in the world and the largest relic discovered from South East Asia Bronze Age.

Over the different eras, this temple has served as one of the most significant places of worship during the Balinese kingdoms. This temple has existed during the island pre-Hindu era, and was the place of worship for the Balinese indigenous belief at the time. These days, this temple's annual celebrations are held in the 9th month of the Balinese calendar.
