Tanjung Puting National Park

Tanjung Puting National Park is a 335.000 ha national park located in the province of Central Kalimantan which is in the Indonesian part of Borneo.


The park is a jungle, home of Orangutans, and is one of the most essential places for the preservation of wild life in Southeast Asia. The park actually shelters three quarters of the world’s Orangutans population.The park started off as a protected area inhibitated by orangutans in 1936, and its role and facilities upgraded into National Park in 1982.


This national park is the only protected area in South East Asia with vast tract of wetlands, lowland, mature tropical heath and swamp forests with large rookeries. This park also has 400 species of trees that are needed by orangutans and other primates in their life.


In this park you can also experience a lot of rehabilitated orangutans that used to be captive as well as the orangutan king of this area who is the largest and the oldest orangutan in the wilderness of the national park's forest.


A visit of the park is a true adventure in the wild, a place untouched by civilization, where you will be overwhelmed by the jungle’s sounds, smell and unique atmosphere.
