Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan

This time I’m taking you on another quick trip across the Badung Straits and a 40 minute boat ride from Sanur we disembark on another journey 20km away from it all for a night in the sleepy little island of Nusa Lembongan.

The color and clarity of the ocean’s blue and green here make me praise the beauty of island life and again marvel at the nature Indonesia is constantly serving. Snorkeling, diving, fishing and surfing are world class here, second to none and although the breaks for waves can get a bit crowded there is something for everyone.

It’s quaint and quiet, small roads (okay one road) leading to white sand beaches, cliff jump off spots and flourishing seaweed farms that dot island. Rent a motorbike when you get here to really take it all in and make sure you bring along some padding to give that extra cushion for the rocky roads that lead you to the different beaches and bays.

One of the busiest beaches on Lembongan would be Jungut Batu that lies in the northwest and is more popular with the hotels and restaurants and a spectacular view of the sunset and breaks that surfers come to play at. A little further and within walking distance southwest of Jungut Bay is the quiet and beautifully more protected Mushroom Bay. This bay is ideal for swimming and snorkeling with a few places to eat and sleep.

Further south there is Dream Beach and Sunset Beach and a personal favorite lies across the yellow bridge, the tiny island between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida is the wonderful Nusa Ceningan. In Ceninigan there is a lot to do and see, from sport fishing to diving (a little contradictory there but there is a lot of aquatic life to see and.. catch apparently) cliff jumps and general exploring.

The cliff jump is 7-11 meters (but I swear it said 13 when I was there) and is worth a look  even if you don’t jump, as the blue waters of they bay beyond picturesque and ‘selfie’ friendly.

It’s close enough for a day trip if you leave at ten in the morning on any given day with the last boat leaving Lembongan at 3 pm that’s more than enough time. Make sure if you hit Ceningan you check out Jenny’s Place, especially if you are a surfer as  you appreciate the view of the waves breaking in front of you with a cold Bintang beside to you.  What more could you ask for on quick getaway?
