LAKE MANINJAU

'The Maninjau caldera (cauldron-like volcanic feature) was formed by a volcanic eruption estimated to have occurred around 52,000 years ago. This lake is known as one of the calmest places in Indonesia. Located in the mountain highlands, around 460 meters above sea level, this lake has an incredible view and offers the perfect atmosphere to relax and recharge, especially for those living a fast paced city life.

Lake Maninjau has an area of 99.5 km, being approximately 16 km long and 7 km wide with a maximum depth of 165 m. To get to the lake, visitors have to take the road from Bukittinggi, with all its extreme twists and turns. This road has 44 bends in it, which is why it is called Kelok 44, which pretty much translates into 44 bends.

The journey from this road down to the lake will definitely spoil you with the stunning view all along the way.

In short, Maninjau is a notable tourist destination in the region due to its scenic beauty and mild climate. It is also known as a site for paragliding and aquaculture.

This time I’m taking you on another quick trip across the Badung Straits and a 40 minute boat ride from Sanur we disembark on another journey 20km away from it all for a night in the sleepy little island of Nusa Lembongan.
