GUNUNG RINJANI NATIONAL PARK
A large, active volcano looming over the island, Gunung Rinjani culminates at 3726m and is the 3rd highest peak in Indonesia.
The last eruption was in May 2010 but several treks are available from 100’000 Rp to 2’500’000 Rp. In 2008, approved by UNESCO, the Gunnung Rinjani National Park became the first geological park in Indonesia (entrance fee 150’000 Rp).
The lower and middle slopes of the volcano are densely forested with tropical species and must be climbed during dry season. Low temperatures at the summit make warm clothes a must-have.
