The Mangrooves is a (band) name that might sound very familiar to you people who happen to be part of the island's music lovers or simply regulars to a number of South Bali's music venues that are known for their seriousness in presenting the freshest bands and musicians in store to make your evening out a real treat for your ears as well as your happy dancing feet!

After following the work of these guys for a while now, we are totally excited that the right timing has come for them to finally be our Artist of the Week! Why it took so long, you asked? Well, that is part of what we will share with you in this article.

The Mangrooves is a young and emerging band consisting of culturally diverse members who all grew up in Bali. The band was formed back in 2013 and over the rather short period of time, they have managed to work their way up to the list of the island's most featured bands at various happening music venues around.

These guys play an eclectic mix of their own original work and their very own version of covers from artists who inspire them in their creativity. The colorful cultural backgrounds of the human elements of the band have also played as a factor in shaping the end result of their sound and style. All elements combined, their music presents a nice fusion of Jazz, Soul, Blues and Funk performed freely over magnetic rhythms of Reggae, Ska and Funk, completed with a modern electronic twist.

The Mangrooves definitely falls under the category of the soulful bands on the island. They have this particular dynamic and energy they never fail to bring on stage and their performances are delightfully engaging! And to top that off, their songs contain positive messages which safe to say is a cup of tea for everyone.

And related to why we've just managed to have them as our featured band now and not any sooner; is because we were one of the many who were waiting for this Bali based band to finish recording their work! And yes, great news! The Mangrooves has indeed just finished recording their debut Live EP in Bali with well-respected Jakarta based label, DEMAJORS, which has been known for Indonesia's fantastic names in the music industry, such as Barasuara, Tulus, Efek Rumah Kaca and White Shoes and the Couples Company! The EP is now available in music stores throughout Indonesia and soon it will be available on iTunes too!

So, if this sounds like the stuff you like, tune in to our radio for the band's single taken from their debut Live EP, broadcast every day for two weeks (May 30 - June 12, 2024) at 7 AM, 12 PM, 7 PM, 12 AM Bali Time!
