Shanren Band
This weekís Artist of the Week is a unique band from Yunan Province of Southern China, which carries a powerful energy through the ethnic fusion that they play, Shan Ren!
The name of the band translates into Mountain People, and yes, they are indeed mountain people with mixed ethnic backgrounds ñHan, Wa, and Buyi -, and so they represent each ethnic group in the area by using so many unique traditional instruments as well as by combining the influence of each ethnic group and many other minority groups through their original compositions and re-workings of local folks melodies.
Shanren fuse Yunan/Guinzhou indigenous music with Rock, Reggae, and Ska and their charismatic and energetic sound has been well received by music lovers on festivals in many different countries, recently in Korea, Spain, and not to mention the most recent Bali Spirit Festival in Ubud, Bali, which was a great success showed by how much all people ended up loving them! Enjoy the fantastic sound of this Chinese World Music phenomenon waiting to happen, at our usual hours (9a.m.-12 a.m.- 7 p.m.-00 a.m.).[gallery]
