Color Theory and Their Debut EP, The Four Horsemen!
Over the years, Bali's music scene has been progressing and resulting in a greater diversity of local bands and genres presented on the venues and stages, especially around the south part of the island. And that is totally the kind of progress that we are definitely into! More bands to check out, more artists to meet, more local indie music to experience and share! And oh, all those stories too; we just happen to love all this!
Related to all that gratitude expressed above is the fact that we're simply happy about the supply of cool new bands this island has! This week, thanks to the island's debut celebration of the Record Store Day a couple months ago (shout out to the creative souls who made that happen!), we are now excited for you guys to meet Color Theory, who was one of the bands who had their debut EP available on the Bali RSD then.
Color Theory is a rock band consisting of Boby Aghastya, Andhika Mahardika, Krisnayana and Arikandika. Before Color Theory happened, these guys were just friends who hung out together. They were also kind of into different types of music. It was last year that they managed to combine their style, taste, preference as well as influence in music into this band they finally formed.
While generally Color Theory does indeed fall under the category of rock without a doubt, the touch that these guys bring into their music does make their tunes sound rather vintage too. The general music genre combined with their specific effects and minimum distortion, followed by the guitar riffs, seems to be their formula to come up with an excellent old-school feel!
The band did share that they were influenced and inspired by the big legends in that area of psychedelic rock such as Radio Moscow, The Doors, Pink Floyd, which does explain that touch of psychedelic rock they have in their music.
About the band's debut EP we mentioned briefly earlier in this article; these guys have recently released their EP entitled "Color Theory EP: Four Horsemen". The EP contains four original tracks; Lucifer's Vulture, Four Horseman, Hades and Maggotism Antem. The album is indeed inspired by the story of the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse, along with the war, famine, and death that surrounds the theme by default. For them, this is a way to criticize certain lifestyles, greed and injustice that happens around us.
The official launching of the EP was held very recently; on June 4, 2024 at the Soul Kitchen in Denpasar.
At last, we hope that you are into rock, or more specifically psychedelic rock, or that you're simply curious about the new bands around! The band's tracks from their debut EP will be broadcast on our radio every day for 2 weeks straight (June 13 - June 26, 2024) at 7 AM, 12 PM, 7 PM and 12 AM Bali Time!
The interview and live session will be broadcast on Sunday, June 19, 2024 at 10 PM with a re-run on the same time and day in the following week! And yes, the video will follow soon after! We'll keep you posted! Enjoy and keep supporting our local bands, because aside from it being the right thing to do, these bands also happen to be awesome!
It is a very rare breed of artist we have this week. Well, first of all, hip-hop artists are not exactly the kind of artists you meet a lot in Bali. And rare also are rappers like Kamau aka PitchBlack Gold: He is a multi-talented artist, a poet, a dancer, an activist, a humble and charismatic man, who knows how to bring the crowd to dance ...
Electric Cadillac is the name of this week's Artist of the Week and the band's name was inspired by the fact that Cadillacs were totally one of the symbols of the blues era -which is the basic of the band's genre-, brought by a generation of these days, where most things are electric. And that theory and philosophy right there is one of the ...
