TIRTA EMPUL TEMPLE

Tirta Empul Temple is a holy spring water temple located in Tampak Siring Village, in Gianyar, 40 km from Denpasar. This holy place is said to have holy power and is a place for pilgrimage. 
 
 
This temple was built in 962 A.D. during the Warmadewa dynasty, at this site that had a large water spring. The temple was named after the ground water source; "Tirta Empul" which literally translates into holy spring. 
 
 
Like most Balinese temple, this temple is also divided into three sections being Jaba Pura  or front yard, Jaba Tengah or central yard dan Jeroan which is the inner yard. There are 2 pools with 30 showers in the Jaba Tengah, each known to stream healing water. 
 
 
Sukarno used to stay in the palace during his visits in Bali. Rumor has it that Sukarno built the palace close to the Balinese Fountain of Eternal Youth to indefinitely prolong his "President-for-Life" status. 
 
 
Suharto also used the palace as a residence. From the palace there is a great view over Tirta Empul. According to rumors Sukarno himself used a telescope to check out naked women taking a bath in the holy water.
