SURFING SPOTS

MEDEWI

MEDEWI

Traveling north west from Kuta take the road to Tabanan and keep going, some 2-2.5 hours in traffic may be an issue on the two lane and sole road from Java, but it's well worth the drive for some uncrowded surf in the dry season here in Bali.

August is said to be the ideal time to go, but really you should rely on the most recent wind and swell report before you back your vehicle and mates for a short but sweet surf trip to Medewi. On smaller days its a great wave for beginners and a god place to get some surf shots with the local boys making good business of gifting you with a souvenir on your big day out for a couple rupiah.

A left hand point break on a good day breaks in 3 spots with some bombies out the back to watch for.  The wave is fairly consistent and works best on a southerly swell in the early mornings before the trade winds hit. The bottom is interspersed with grey stone boulders and pebbles which you may have to watch out for if you're coming in or going out on the high tide. Just ask the warung for some lime wedges to sort out those pesky cuts after a session.

Scenery and serenity are unbeatable here, think Bali in the 70's where the back drop of your session is predominantly green and lush. It's a quiet place to stay and surf with accommodation along the way before the break and if you're staying a couple nights there is another wave Balian (beach break, mid tide and south from Medewi over a river mouth) that is a bit more built up with restaurants to visit for long days out in the surf.

Bingin is a white sand beach located north of Padang-Padang and south of Dreamland. Bingin is a solid left-hander with a radical take-off and perfect tubes but can be dangerous on low tide due to the coral reef. The beach here is not easy to access as the cliffs are high. The good news is the ocean view makes the visit worthwhile. From the ...

Nusa Lembongan has amazing surf that you can experience at any level of surfing.  Play grounds is chill left and right peak that provides a wave when the swell is small and the tide is low.  You can paddle out from Coconut beach to catch the long left or (depending on the tide of course) short mushy right. The ...

PADANG PADANG

Often nicknamed “the Balinese Pipeline”, Padang Padang is a famous coral reef hollow left-hander located on the Western side of the Bukit, between Impossible and Uluwatu. You can access Padang Padang from a stepped pathway 3 km north of Uluwatu Temple, heading back towards Pecatu. The wave starts working only when a big swell ...

ULUWATU

Probably one of the most famous waves in the world, Uluwatu, located down the Uluwatu’s temple’s cliff, is a fat and long left-hander. With its tricky cave entrance and powerful wave crashing on sharp rock and corral, no one should make fun of your helmet there. Riding Uluwatu is truly a privilege and when the conditions allow ...

CANGGU

Canggu is a well-known surfing spot, a quiet place to have a drink for sunset or have dinner facing the sea in one of the small restaurants by the beach. Grab your scooter for a relaxing ride if you want to leave Seminyak or Kuta without going too far. It has been, in recent years, one fast developing place in Bali (many villas are built in ...
