KUTA

KUTA

Once a small village, Kuta is the heart of tourism in Bali, with its good sides and, well, maybe not so good ones.

Kuta has got all the commodities one can find in any touristic beach resort: Cheap accommodations and more upscale hotels, wide range of restaurants, warungs, souvenirs shop, travel agencies, etc.

Kuta Beach is a good surfing spot for beginners: On-duty lifeguards and surf schools will guide your first steps as a future surf god. Always make sure to get reliable info about the wind, tide, current, etc. Some local provide surf lessons but you might want to choose an ”official” surf school with better teaching methods and equipment. However, it is better to avoid surfing or swimming there days after heavy rain: The water gets dirty and can be potentially harmful for your skin and your health.

Depending on your taste and/or your mood, Kuta’s nightlife may appear to you as one of the last circles of Dante’s Hell or as a great place for parties you won’t remember with friends you’ll never forget! Karaoke, bar nightclub, restaurant, Kuta has everything to take you to the end of the night on a bumpy ride. Each places seem to have enter the contest of the loudest place (or is it an attempt to cover the screams of party-goers?!). If you plan a night out in Kuta, forget your car, or even taxis: The traffic is so dense, especially during high season, can be a painful experience. Two wheels are much more efficient and should save you time and money. If you don’t feel like riding your own bike, you can easily find some locals who can take you around for a few thousands Rupiah.
Kuta is known for being a good place to party, but beware:

Some places sell very bad alcohol, sometimes poured from famous brand’s bottles. Several ways to avoid that:

Stick to Bintang or wine. And for other liquor, you might want to buy a bottle and ask the waiter to open it in front of you. And a simple piece of advice: When you hear words like “cocaine”, “marijuana” or any other type of illegal substance, simply remember Indonesia’s take-no-prisoner policy for drug users.

In other words, don’t even think about it. Many foreigners have learned it the hard way: You can be sentenced for a few years in jail for simple possession.

UBUD

Located at the very center of Bali, Ubud is famous worldwide for being the cultural and artistic center of the island. Ubud is a quiet village with a refreshingly cooler temperature and atmosphere. Some travelers go to Ubud to escape from the Kuta’s effervescence, some to quench their thirst for art, some for shopping and sightseeing, ...

CANGGU

Canggu is a well-known surfing spot, a quiet place to have a drink for sunset or have dinner facing the sea in one of the small restaurants by the beach.  Grab your scooter for a relaxing ride if you want to leave Seminyak or Kuta without going too far. It has been, in recent years, one fast developing place in Bali (many villas are ...

Hash House Harriers

I've heard about the Hash runs before, the group famously known for their tag line of 'drinkers with a running problem' but had never tried a run until coming to Bali. Hash House Harriers or 'hashers' as they are called, have been doing this sort of thing  for decades being a non competitive social running club. ...

LEGIAN

In the Kuta/Legian/Seminyak urban complex, Seminyak and Legian are Kuta’s rich northern relatives of the family: A residential and touristic area offering high-end accommodations, trendy spas, upscale shops and renowned restaurants.  Fast growing development, along with a “so-cool-but-so-chic” crowd, have made Seminyak ...

SANUR

Sanur (meaning “the passion to visit a certain place”) is a family resort famous for its sandy beaches and stunning sunrise.  A little more expansive than Kuta and a little cheaper than Seminyak, Sanur is a perfect place for family with kids, but also for surfers looking for a crowd-free spot.  Sanur may be a place of quietness and ...
