IDA BAGUS MADE

Ida Bagus Made was born In Tebasaya in 1915, from a Brhaman family of artists. He first started to learn painting from his father and later on under the teachings of Rudolph Bonnet, considered him the most talented artists in Bali. He developed his art during the movement of modernization of Balinese art.

At 21 in he joined the Pitamaha Artist Guild, founded in 1936. The guild was founded to preserve Balinese art from tourism and commercialism. He was specialized in ritual and carving sacred masks imbued with magical protecting powers for Ubud’s temples.

He became famous worldwide and today his paintings can be seen at the MoMa in New York, the Royal Tropical Institute Museum in Amsterdam, the Royal Ethnographic Museum, the Agung Rai Museum of Art, the Bentara Budaya.
