The 7th Ombak Bali International Surf Film Festival

The 7th Ombak Bali International Surf Film Festival

It's become one the islands most anticipated events and you'll be sorry if you miss the Ombak Bali International Surf Film Festival this weekend. On the 18th, 19th and 20th of July be prepared for evenings of surf films and documentaries by the sea, being the only film festival of it's kind in South East Asia.

This year still held at the legendary La Plancha on double 6 beach, expect alot of lounging on bean bags (and if you're late a sarong on the beach) with cold bintangs and the ocean as a backdrop to an outdoor film festival that truly is one of a kind and totally free of charge!

Celebrating their 7th year the countdown has begun to watch some amazing work from Hawaii (Hawaiian, The Legend of Eddie Aikau) to Austria (The Old, The Young, & The Sea) with 4 days left till this annual event commences. In the festival you can expect gems from amazing directors like Taylor Steel (Missing) and Dustin Humphrey (I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night) with his eye on Indonesia. Other notable films and shorts with a focus on Indonesia include The Salt Trail and Chasing Unicorns, always a favorite for the festival going crowds with reactions akin to cheering an at home game.

This year some notable films showcase surfing through adversary.  A shortie of surfing the waters and town in the North Sea and a documentary that puts the spotlight on the taboo of homosexuality in surfing and the stigmas those surfers must endure to overcome obstacles (Out In The Line Up) being another not to miss.Prepare to have your visual senses stimulated to the maximum with beautiful films from a surfing voyage shot on an old super 8 (In Paradisum) to an exploration of the magical power of water and the ocean (Within).

Films like these, good music, great after parties and always a wonderful atmosphere, The Ombak Bali International Surf Film Festival is surely one (or 3) the best ways to spend your nights in Bali. All you have to do is show up early, pack with a sarong, some extra rupiah for popcorn and let the film + good times roll.
