Bali Arts Festival 2016: Cherishing Your Homeland

When it comes to the celebration of the diverse colors in traditional culture, the blend of generations-old heritage combined with today's modern influence, all kind of brought together by appreciation and enthusiasm towards life, art, tradition, roots and everything that's beautiful, Bali sure has its very own occasions to highlight those above!

Bali Arts Festival, locally known as Pesta Kesenian Bali has arrived for the 38th time this year, taking place from Saturday, June 11, 2016 until July 9, 2016! This festival is the oldest annual highly respected celebration of art and culture, held by the Provincial Government of Bali. This year's theme,"Karang Awak" which translates into ‘Cherishing Your Homeland", will be the umbrella of the one month full of cultural performances, exhibitions and more!

The festival was officially opened at the Bajra Sandhi Monument area which is located at the Puputan Margarana Park, better known as the Renon Park. The opening was be marked by the spectacular street parade which never fails to be so rich of colors and so large in size that you'd totally see and get why this festival is officially the biggest and most prestigious art festival on this island. And of course, the festival was opened by President Joko Widodo.

Aside from all the participants from around the island, the opening parade also presents representatives from many islands across the Indonesian archipelago, as well as neighboring countries. This year, among all the fantastic and special features, there is one new one, whereas the parade will also present a collective from France called Les Grandes Personnes, adding more diversity to this already colorful parade!

Not to mention, Pesta Kesenian Bali, mostly referred to as PKB, has earned a very special place in the heart of the vast majority of people all around Bali, because it is simply that annual festival where there is a place for all finest artists to perform representing all regions on the island.

This annual celebration has also been performing as a platform for new creations as well as specialties of particular regions to be showcased.
All the other performances and activities throughout the month will be held at Taman Werdhi Budaya (Art Center) in Denpasar.
