APSARA, SPIRITS OF THE SEA

APSARA, SPIRITS OF THE SEA

She’s a Goddess of the cloud and the water, a celestial nymph, a beautiful spirit of elegance and youth. She is the dancing spirit. She glides elegantly with the flow of the water. She is one majestic supernatural being, a source of inspiration for centuries, in many different cultures.

She is also a statue built to be sunk underwater in East Bali, on October 22nd, 2014, as a part of the Underwater Sculpture project lead by Celia Gregory from The Marine Foundation.

Having met Celia in person quite in several occasion, I would say she has the spirit of Apsara. Not only she thinks way outside the box for each an every one of her Art for Ocean project to raise awareness in preserving, and conserving the coral reefs and all the surrounding habitats in the ocean, she does it quite beautifully, elegantly.

Simply put, the touch of her ideas have so far made each and every one of her campaign presented with stunning arts, instead of protests and street campaigns.

One statue at a time, one dazzling piece of art at a time, one beautiful moment at a time, a bold and powerful move to turn your eyes and look, think, and start caring – which in the end will swiftly guide you into contributing to this essential conservation for the better future of the ocean, and ours.

In the past, each of the sinking ceremony has been documented. However Apsara, the latest sculpture, marks the success of her previous underwater beauties. Considering the greater impact it would reach, Celia and her team from The Marine Foundation will work with film maker to create breathtaking, extraordinary, graceful underwater film at the time of sinking the sculpture. The film is called “Apsara, Spirit of The Ocean”. The title speaks for itself, carrying elegance and powerful message on command.

The day is coming closer and along with the sneak peak photography posted on social media, curiosity arises. I expect the film to be one of the most beautiful underwater art piece to date. I expect the world to see it. I expect the coral reefs to thrive as Apsara gains awareness.

In the past, The Marine Foundation’s underwater sculptures gained support from companies such as The Body Shop, Grand Luley Hotel, and many others. This time, Apsara needs your support.

Celia Gregory is doing her first online crowd funding to help make this stunning film happen. You can find the information on Apsara, Spirits of The Sea crowd funding link, and you can help by donating or simply passing along the information to reach those who can.
