Baptiste Trotignon & Minino Garay: Enlightening & Powerful French Jazz Duo Presented in Bali by Printemps Français!

One thing that without a doubt is one of the most wonderful things about art and cultural festivals, especially those where the artists travel a long way to reach their stage is that they always have its own way to enrich our life on different levels. These stage performances bring touches and stories turned into an artistic experience which sometimes feel to come from quite ‘different worlds'.

This year's celebration of Printemps Français in Bali, for example, has so brought us experiences from places and eras that don't fall under the category of common performances presented on the regular kind of stage in Bali. It has succeeded to present cultural collaborations and amazing performances; and yet the selection of events has not finished yet.

This week on Artist of the Week, we are honored to have a world-class well-respected jazz duo, Baptiste Trotignon & Minino Garay, who (as you might have known or guessed based on the above context) happen to be on the program list of Printemps Francais in Bali as well; presented on stage of Rumah Sanur Creative Hub on Wednesday, May 18, 2016! This will be a world-class jazz performance presented with free entry, giving everyone a chance to get a taste of a classy jazzy evening held at South Bali's very own favored humble venues!

Baptiste Trotignon is a French inventive and virtuoso jazz pianist who started his journey in the world of music since the age of 6, and began his relationship with the piano 3 years later. In 2003, he released his debut solo piano album entitled Solo and he continued composing and releasing music ever since. He also plays "interpretations of music" from Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan to Edith Piaf.

Aside from his noteable work, Trotignon is also known for his amazing achievements marked by the various prestigious awards he won over the years, including a Django d'Or, the Prix Django Reinhardt de l'Académie du Jazz, Best French Newcomer at the 2003 Victoires du Jazz - as well as the Grand Prix at the 2002 Martial Solal International Jazz Piano Competition.

Baptiste Trotignon has been collaborating with French percussionist of Argentinean origin, Minino Garay, who has been known to have been around in world music circles worldwide as well as in the international jazz scene. Garay has collaborated with famous world-class musicians such as Richard Bona, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jacky Terrasson, Michel Portal, Toumani Diabaté and Mercedes Sona, to name a few.

Garay has this remarkable reputation for his unique style which is influenced by Argentinean music genres such as ‘cuarteto', combined with a rich range of music styles from Latin America, Africa all the way to the sound of jazz!

Together, Trotignon and Garay present dynamic and passionate reinterpretation of popular French songs by songs by Gainsbourg, Brel, Nougaro, traditional Argentinean tunes, and even extracts from West Side Story, in their very own particular version, which are also all without vocals. This duet is simply enlightening and powerful!

We can't wait to see them on stage at Rumah Sanur Creative Hub on Wednesday, May 18! And we obviously can't wait to have our exclusive interview with the duo, and not to mention catch this must-see jazz concert on video! We'll make sure to share those amazing details with you, starting with the interview, which will be broadcast on our radio on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 10 PM Bali Time! Soon followed by our video of the concert and more!

For in the mean time, enjoy their tracks on the Artist of the Week slots, at 7AM, 12 PM, 7 PM and 12 AM Bali Time! Enjoy!!!
